- The newest headset made by Apple, the Vision Pro, has been officially sold by pre-order in the United States (US) starting January 19 2024. The AR (augmented reality) headset is priced at USD 3,499 or around IDR 55 million.
A fantastic price for a headset device that far exceeds competitors such as the Meta Quest 3 (USD 499), Meta Quest Pro (USD 999) and HTC Vive XR Elite (USD 1,099). All of these advanced features are packaged in the Vision Pro body which still weighs around 600-650 grams, similar to its competitors' headsets. The YouTube account also shows that the development of Vision Pro took approximately 6 years and has more than 5,000 technology patents.
The Techcrunch site also explains that the Vision Pro adopts the new R1 chip which is specifically designed for real-time processing. The sophistication of the hardware embedded in the Vision Pro means that this device is priced at a price that is not cheap.
One more reason why Apple headsets are sold at exorbitant prices is related to the exclusivity that Apple might want to provide to their customers. It could be that Vision Pro is designed for developers or a handful of enthusiasts.
Information circulating previously revealed that Apple analysts estimated that the company sold up to 180,000 units, so there was around USD 630 million deposited into Apple's bank account, quoted by Extremetech.
