After Google, YouTube's turn to lay off hundreds of employees

- After Google, now it's YouTube's turn to carry out mass layoffs. YouTube is cutting at least 100 employees at management and operational levels.
Citing an email sent to employees, The New York Times reported that the layoffs were mainly aimed at YouTube content creators.
“We have made the decision to eliminate several roles and say goodbye to some of our teammates,” YouTube Chief Business Officer Mary Ellen Coe said in the email.
“Anyone in the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region who is affected or may be affected will be notified by the end of the day,” he said.
The wave of layoffs at YouTube follows similar actions by Google. Last week, Google laid off hundreds of employees working on Google Assistant as well as knowledge and information product teams.
Hundreds of other employees from Google's digital services and product areas were also laid off. A number of positions in the central engineering team will also be eliminated as a step towards undergoing organizational restructuring.
Google Chief Business Officer Philipp Schindler has also confirmed that hundreds of jobs worldwide in advertising sales departments will be eliminated as a result of Google's sales team switching operations to AI.

- Setelah Google, kini giliran YouTube melakukan pemutusan hubungan kerja (PHK) massal. YouTube memangkas setidaknya 100 karyawan di tingkat manajemen dan operasional.
Mengutip email yang dikirimkan kepada para karyawan, The New York Times melaporkan PHK terutama dilakukan kepada para pembuat konten YouTube.
“Kami telah mengambil keputusan untuk menghilangkan beberapa peran dan mengucapkan selamat tinggal kepada beberapa rekan tim kami,” kata Chief Business Officer YouTube Mary Ellen Coe dalam email tersebut.
“Siapa pun di Amerika dan kawasan Asia-Pasifik yang terkena dampak atau mungkin terkena dampaknya akan diberi tahu pada akhir hari ini,” katanya.
Gelombang PHK di YouTube menyusul tindakan serupa dari Google. Pekan lalu, Google memecat ratusan karyawan yang bekerja di Asisten Google serta tim produk pengetahuan dan informasi.
Ratusan karyawan lainnya dari layanan digital dan area produk Google juga tak luput dari PHK. Sejumlah posisi di tim teknik pusat juga akan dihilangkan sebagai langkah untuk menjalani restrukturisasi organisasi.
Chief Business Officer Google Philipp Schindler juga sudah mengonfirmasi ratusan pekerjaan di seluruh dunia di departemen penjualan periklanan akan dihilangkan sebagai akibat dari peralihan operasi tim penjualan Google ke AI.
