Google's Case Totally Changes the Future of Android

- The Google versus Epic case currently being played out in a Washington court will likely have a big impact on Android. The latest findings, Google is said to be hiding evidence deliberately and systematically.
Judge James Donato, overseeing the case, said he would investigate Google further. "I will find out who is responsible," he said, quoted from The Verge, Monday (4/12/2023).
The court heard Google used an auto-delete setting to automatically delete messages between employees. This was done from employee level to CEO Sundar Pichai.
However, Pichai and many other employees deny doing so. They claimed to mark the document as a privilege so that it would not pass to someone else.
Meanwhile, on November 14 2023, The Verge recorded that Pichai said he relied on the legal and compliance teams to provide instructions. Especially from the head of legal affairs for Alphabet, Google's parent company, Kent Walker.
Two days later, Walker spoke in court. He said he did not audit whether employees kept evidence or not.
Employees can decide which communications are relevant to a legal case. The Verge also wrote that more than one employee who testified in court said he misunderstood what was relevant.
Donato said he was worried about what Google was doing. The removal of such evidence is an attack on the administration of justice and undermines the legal process, he said.
However, Donato confirmed that he would not issue inference instructions. The trial decision will be left entirely to the jury.
"I can resolve this problem myself, outside of this trial at the next trial," he said.
Google is accused of monopolizing the application market through the Google Play Store application store. Through its payment system, Google cuts revenue commissions for application developers. This made Epic sue Google to court.
Not only Google, Epic also sued Apple but lost in court.

- Kasus Google versus Epic yang tengah digelar di pengadilan Washington nampaknya akan berdampak besar pada Android. Temuan terbaru, Google disebut menyembunyikan bukti secara sengaja dan sistematis.
Hakim James Donato, pengawas kasus ini, mengatakan akan menyelidiki Google lebih lanjut. "Saya akan mencari tahu siapa yang bertanggung jawab," ucapnya, dikutip dari The Verge, Senin (4/12/2023).
Di dalam pengadilan terungkap Google menggunakan pengaturan auto-delete untuk menghapus pesan antar karyawan secara otomatis. Ini dilakukan dari level karyawan hingga CEO Sundar Pichai.
Namun, Pichai dan banyak karyawan lain menyangkal melakukannya. Mereka mengaku menandai dokumen sebagai hak istimewa agar tidak jatuh ke orang lain.
Sementara pada 14 November 2023 lalu, The Verge mencatat Pichai menyebut mengandalkan tim hukum dan compliance untuk memberikan instruksi. Khususnya dari kepala bagian hukum Alphabet, induk perusahaan Google, Kent Walker.
Dua hari kemudian, Walker berbicara di pengadilan. Dia mengatakan tidak mengaudit apakah karyawan menyimpan bukti atau tidak.
Para karyawan dapat memutuskan komunikasi mana yang relevan dengan kasus hukum. The Verge juga menuliskan ada lebih dari satu karyawan yang bersaksi di pengadilan mengatakan salah paham soal apa yang relevan.
Donato menyebut dirinya resah dengan apa yang dilakukan Google. Penghapusan bukti tersebut merupakan serangan pada administrasi peradilan dan melemahkan proses hukum, ungkapnya.
Namun Donato memastikan tidak akan mengeluarkan instruksi inferensi. Keputusan persidangan akan diserahkan secara penuh kepada para juri.
"Saya bisa menyelesaikan masalah ini sendiri, di luar persidangan ini di sidang berikutnya," ungkap dia.
Google dituduh memonopoli pasar aplikasi melalui toko aplikasi Google Play Store. Melalui sistem pembayarannya, Google memotong komisi pendapatan bagi para pengembang aplikasi. Hal ini membuat Epic menuntut Google ke meja hijau.
Tak hanya Google, Epic juga menggugat Apple namun kalah di persidangan.
