Sam Altman Joins Microsoft After Being Fired by OpenAI, What's the Difference Between ChatGPT vs Bing?

- Microsoft has just hired former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sam Altman and founder of OpenAI. He was recruited after being suddenly fired by the startup's board of directors on Friday (17/11/2023).
OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman also resigned minutes after Altman was fired. It is known that Brockman also joined Microsoft.
This was revealed by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella via his personal X account. He said Microsoft will continue to partner with OpenAI, even though Altman has left the startup behind ChatGPT.
Nadella did not provide specific details regarding the positions Altman and Brockman will hold at Microsoft. However, it is claimed that both of them will lead the company's artificial intelligence (AI) technology development team.
"We are excited to announce the news that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, along with several colleagues, will join to lead a new AI research team at Microsoft. "We can't wait to quickly provide various necessities to support their success," said Nadella as quoted by The Verge.
OpenAI and Microsoft are two major companies providing AI services. OpenAI with ChatGPT services and Microsoft with Bing AI services.

Function
Although ChatGPT and Bing AI use pre-trained transformer (GPT) generative language models, they are different platforms. ChatGPT functions as a versatile chatbot that utilizes extensive, but limited resources during its training process, including academic journals, business websites, publications, and Wikipedia.
On the other hand, Bing's version of a chatbot is essentially an AI-powered search engine. The platform comes with more advanced indexing and scanning, integrated AI dialogue features, and doubles as a search engine as well as a chatbot.
Despite their differences, both ChatGPT and Bing AI run similar systems. With proper guidance both are able to write essays, answer general knowledge questions, summarize books, conduct argument research, and complete other assignments. However, keep in mind the responses of both may vary based on the training dataset they receive.
Conversational Language
ChatGPT and Bing AI both use the GPT model by utilizing a natural language processing (NLP) system, this level provides responses with human-like text. The two platforms are able to respond to follow-up questions, analyze problems, and respond to non-factual statements.
ChatGPT and Bing AI also have the ability to carry out conversations. However, when observing these tools users will see that both use a slightly more sophisticated model, so the resulting responses sound more natural.
Even though ChatGPT's language model still uses GPT-3.5, the tool is able to produce statements that are grammatically and factually correct, but they still sound clunky. On the other hand, Bing AI uses GPT-4 of the ChatGPT language model which produces more natural and authentic responses.
Data Accuracy
If you need information on a technical subject or current event, Bing AI generally provides higher quality responses due to its ability to perform live searches on the internet. However, when users focus their search only on historical knowledge, ChatGPT can also be an option because it has knowledge about events before 2021.
Bing AI is also one of the best free AI image generators available today. Users simply enter a text prompt, and Bing will generate several image options to choose from. Although OpenAI also provides DALL-E for similar purposes, users must subscribe to ChatGPT Plus when accessing it.
Usage Limitations
On Bing AI users can only have 30 chats per day, while ChatGPT can have unlimited conversations or chats per day.
Security
Security measures are a priority considering the abuse of ChatGPT by cybercriminals. As a result, some people see ChatGPT as a security threat in cyberspace, allowing criminals to create spam e-mails, develop malware, and create phishing links.
OpenAI acknowledges this problem and is aware that ChatGPT can produce malicious content, although the developer continues to strive for security.
Similar cybersecurity risks are also faced by Bing AI. Microsoft is attempting to address this by implementing stricter restrictions, to reduce the potential for the platform to be breached. Bing AI also stops conversations if there is use of words or content that it deems unusual or suspicious.
Cost
ChatGPT is a powerful, free-to-use chatbot with GPT-3.5 language model to perform various tasks. However, to get a more sophisticated AI assistant, OpenAI offers a subscription service called ChatGPT Plus at a cost of US$20 or around IDR 300,000 per month.
ChatGPT Plus uses GPT-4, providing priority access and faster responses. Initially, ChatGPT Plus was limited to users in the United States (US), but starting in February 2023, the developer expanded access overseas.
Even though the subscription fee is relatively affordable, for some people ChatGPT Plus is not always needed. As an alternative, Bing AI could be an option.
Bing AI uses the GPT-4 engine, and while Microsoft plans to generate revenue from Bing through advertising, it is likely that Bing AI will still be available for free.

Salah satu pendiri OpenAI Greg Brockman juga mengundurkan diri beberapa menit setelah Altman dipecat. Diketahui Brockman juga bergabung dengan Microsoft.
