Dr. Charles said that around 30 percent of applications on the Google Play Store still contain malware.

Examples include taking a user's credit or locking a smartphone, then being threatened with redemption via bitcoin.

Locking a smartphone by malware like that can be quite a bad thing, because the perpetrator can threaten the existence of folders or photos on the smartphone.
There are ways to prevent this from happening.
The first is to make sure you download the application from a safe place such as Google Play Store or App Store.
If there are applications shared from WhatsApp groups or websites, you need to be careful, and it is better not to download them.
Dr. Charles also talked about how to distinguish between legal and non-illegal applications on the two platforms.
The way to differentiate is by looking at the identity of the application creator, and also looking at review comments.
If the comments from the selected application are more good, then it should be suspicious.
Therefore, it is important to look at the number of downloads too, because legal applications are definitely downloaded more.

Dalam menggunakan internet, ada tiga komponen yang harus ikut dalam mengamankan siber, yaitu People, Process, dan Technology.
Kejahatan siber memiliki beragam cara yang salah satunya bisa dari sebuah aplikasi.
Dr. Charles mengatakan sekitar 30 persen aplikasi di Google Play Store masih mengandung malware.
Jika ada pengguna yang tidak mengetahui bahwa aplikasi tersebut mengandung malware, maka bisa saja mengalami hal-hal yang tidak diharapkan.
Contohnya seperti mengambil pulsa pengguna atau mengunci smartphone, lalu diancam untuk penebusan lewat bitcoin.

Penguncian smartphone oleh malware seperti itu bisa menjadi hal yang cukup buruk, karena si pelaku bisa mengancam keberadaan folder atau foto yang ada di dalam smartphone.
Ada cara untuk mencegah hal tersebut terjadi.
Yang pertama ialah pastikan kalian mendownload aplikasi dari tempat yang aman seperti Google Play Store atau App Store.
Bila ada aplikasi yang dibagikan dari grup WhatsApp atau website, perlu berhati-hati, dan lebih baik tidak didownload.
Dr. Charles juga membicarakan tentang bagaimana membedakan aplikasi legal dan non ilegal yang ada di kedua platform tersebut.
Cara membedakannya ialah dengan melihat identitas pembuat aplikasi, serta juga melihat komentar review.
Bila komentar dari aplikasi yang dipilih malah lebih banyak yang bagus, maka patut dicurigakan.
Oleh karena itu, penting untuk melihat jumlah unduhannya juga, karena aplikasi yang legal pastinya lebih banyak diunduh.

Menurut Dr. Charles, lebih aman jika pengguna mendownload aplikasi yang sudah terverifikasi sehingga bisa menghindari adanya aplikasi malware.
Ia juga mengaku bahwa platform seperti Google Play Store tidak sepenuhnya aman.
"Play Store tidak 100 persen aman," ujar Dr. Charles lewat acara Gojek Shiled via Zoom (13/10).
Gojek dalam aplikasi untuk driver menyematkan dua fitur yang salah satunya berguna untuk mendeteksi perangkat ilegal dan untuk mendeteksi order fiktif.
