Another WhatsApp "View" Button Fraud Mode Appears, This Is What Experts Say

- Posts regarding the fraudulent mode using the action button or View button on WhatsApp have reappeared on social media.

Information on the fraud mode was shared by the TikTok account @hendrayusuf260 on Sunday (23/7/2023).
“Be careful of the new fraud method! "Don't just click if you get a short message from someone you don't know!!," wrote the uploader.
It can be seen in the uploaded screenshot that a foreign number sends a message containing a blurry file that makes the target curious.

The uploader asks to be more careful and not to immediately click the "View" button because once the file is opened, your personal data will be hacked by fraudsters. In fact, the contents of your account in mobile banking can immediately disappear.

The upload drew various comments from netizens. Several netizens revealed that they had received similar messages.
"You just got it," wrote the account @silumanba****.

"Oh, it's already happened," commented the account @nva_9522.
“I got the message yesterday but I opened it. What is this," wrote the account @chienakbagirang.

So, is it true that if you press the "View" button on WhatsApp, your data will immediately be hacked and your account will be drained?

Expert explanation

Cyber security expert Alfons Tanujaya denied that pressing the "View" button when uploading personal data could immediately be hacked and the money in your mobile banking account could be lost.
“It is not true that if you immediately press the "View" button then it will be hacked and the money in your mobile banking will be lost. "That's not true," said Alfons to Kompas.com, Monday (9/10/2023).

He said that the condition for retrieving personal data and account data actually requires getting a username and mobile banking code.
“Well, just clicking the "View" button is not enough to take over funds. "There are still many steps to take," said Alfons.
According to him, the “View” button is usually directed by fraudsters to enter credentials on fake sites.

If credentials or passwords are stolen, it is still not enough to steal funds in a user's mobile banking.
“So, after that, the OTP (One-Time Password) code from the mobile banking still has to be stolen. "So apart from the "View" button, you are asked to enter the OTP code," explained Alfons.
If the victim has entered the OTP code, there is a high possibility that the mobile banking data could be stolen.

It has appeared since July 2022

According to Alfons, fraudsters will not necessarily contact the victim directly via telephone if the victim only presses the "View" button, i.e. just looks at it without filling in their personal data.

"If the fraudster sees or realizes that the victim is a potential victim, they will definitely call the number," said Alfons.
However, actually the "View" button on WhatsApp is a "Preview" button which is a button to just see what message is in it.

Because the "View" button on WhatsApp is used to just preview all the messages.

If the user does not want to view, it is their choice not to press the "View" button.
Alfons said that the fraud mode with the "view" button has been going on since July 2022.

"It's been more than a year, since the first increase in BRI transfer admin fees," he said.
However, this fraud has now appeared again by sending blurred files via WhatsApp messages.

How to avoid “view” button fraud

Here's how to avoid the "View" button mode scam:

Never enter your mobile banking credentials on unknown sites.

Do not enter your mobile banking credentials into an unclear link such as in a file inside the "View" button.

Use mobile banking on a trusted app from the bank you use.

Use an antivirus program such as G Data Mobile Security to detect and eradicate when a notification appears in the message that your mobile banking has been taken over by another party.

Muncul Lagi Modus Penipuan Modus Button "View" WhatsApp, Ini Kata Pakar

“Hati hati modus penipuan baru !

Beberapa warganet mengungkapkan pernah mendapatkan pesan serupa.
“Bru aja kmren dpt,” tulis akun @silumanba****.

“Loh barusan udah terlanjur,” komentar akun @nva_9522.

Menurut Alfons, penipu belum tentu akan langsung menghubungi korban via telepon jika korban hanya menekan button "View" alias hanya melihatnya saja tanpa mengisi data diri.

Cara menghindari penipuan button “view”
