Cristiano Ronaldo made new history. CR7 became the first footballer to make 200 appearances for the national team according to the Guinness Book of World Records!
Ronaldo appeared as a starter when the Portugal national team faced Iceland in the qualifying match for the 2024 European Cup. The duel took place at Laugardalsvollur, Wednesday (21/6/2023) early morning WIB.
There is a special award given to Ronaldo ahead of kick-off. The Portuguese captain received an award from the Guinness Book of World Records.
Cristiano Ronaldo entered the record books as the first player to appear 200 times at international level. He did it for 19 years and 304 days since his debut with Portugal.
Ronaldo's 200th match is even more special with the goal he scored against Iceland just before the end of normal time. CR7 scored the only goal in Portugal's 1-0 win over the home team.
Ronaldo is very happy to have scored in his 200th game with the Portuguese national team. For him, today was one of the best moments of his life.
"I'm very happy, this is a moment you don't expect to get 200 caps. For me this is an unbelievable achievement," Ronaldo said in an interview with UEFA TV after the Iceland vs Portugal match.
"To be in the Guinness Book of World Records is amazing, of course being able to score goals makes it even more special," he added.
"I thank Iceland, the people, the fans who were in the stadium for the award that was made for me. Also for the Portugal national team, the federation. I'm very happy, it's a special day and I say thank you for everything," he concluded.
Cristiano Ronaldo has now contributed 123 goals in 200 appearances for Portugal. The Al Nassr star successfully won the European Cup and UEFA Nations League titles for his country.

Ronaldo amat senang bisa mencetak gol pada laga ke-200 dia bersama Timnas Portugal. Baginya, hari ini menjadi salah satu momen terbaik dalam hidupnya.
"Saya sangat bahagia, ini satu momen yang Anda tidak menyangka untuk meraih 200 caps. Bagi saya ini pencapaian yang sukar dipercaya," kata Ronaldo dalam wawancara bersama UEFA TV usai laga Islandia vs Portugal.
"Untuk berada di dalam Guinness Book of World Records itu luar biasa, tentu saja bisa mencetak gol membuatnya menjadi lebih spesial," dia menambahkan.
"Saya berterima kasih kepada Islandia, masyarakat, fans yang berada di stadion atas penghargaan yang dibuat untuk saya. Juga untuk Timnas Portugal, federasi. Saya amat bahagia, ini hari yang spesial dan saya mengucapkan terima kasih untuk semuanya," pungkasnya.
Cristiano Ronaldo kini sudah menyumbang 123 gol dari 200 penampilan bersama Portugal. Bintang Al Nassr itu sukses mempersembahkan titel Piala Eropa dan UEFA Nations League buat negaranya.
