- Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD reveals that there are still loopholes for corruption in 4 government agencies.
This statement about the existence of 4 institutions that are still prone to corruption was stated by Mahfud MD when giving a tarawih lecture at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Campus Mosque, Yogyakarta, last Sunday (2/4/2023).
Mahfud MD who had served as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court conveyed the fact there are 4 agencies that are prone to corruption based on the results of discussions with a number of national and international institutions.
"I invited Transparency International to my house, invited Kompas Research and Development to my house, invited partnerships that have been moving to evaluate matters of corruption," said Mahfud MD quoted by AyoBandung.com via the UGM Campus Mosque YouTube, Tuesday (4/4/2023).
According to Mahfud MD, 2 out of 4 government agencies that are prone to corruption are in the bureaucratic sector, especially in the taxation and customs agencies.
"The conclusion is that corruption exists in the bureaucracy, especially taxation and customs," he stressed.
Mahfud explained that it was the foreign investors who actually provided information regarding the existence of corruption practices in the bureaucratic sector.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was also surprised when he provided the data when in the middle of a discussion regarding the Corruption Corruption Index, which fell from 38 to 34 percent.
"Pak Jokowi was a bit amazed there, a bit surprised, at taxation, why didn't he recover," continued the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

According to Mahfud MD, several members of the DPR hold concurrent positions in a number of other companies, so later when there is a budget preparation, the companies held by members of the DPR can entrust projects there. Apart from holding concurrent positions in companies, several DPR members also hold concurrent positions as lawyers.
So that for the sake of certain interests he wants to get involved in taking care of a case.
The latter, according to Mahfud MD often occurs in law enforcement agencies, namely in the realm of courts.
Many judges accept bribes in order to change a case's verdict.
This is evidenced by the recent arrests of law enforcers.
"In the Supreme Court there were four chief justices arrested," he added.
Apart from discussing institutions that are prone to corruption, Mahfud MD also mentioned the existence of corruption during regional head elections from the financiers.
Based on data from the KPK, there are 84 percent of regional heads elected through cukong.
"What is the result? Lots of illegal mining, lots of double IUP (mining business permits). The KPK stated it was official. The KPK found that 84 percent of regional heads in Indonesia were elected through cukong," added Mahfud.
