CRITICIZED, SHAZAM 3 DIRECTOR WANT TO HIATUS WORKING ON SUPERHERO FILM
David F. Sandberg intends to take a break from directing superhero films after working on Shazam! Fury of the Gods. This desire arose after the sequel drew sharp scrutiny from critics despite receiving praise from fans.
Sandberg plans to return to work on horror films as well as try other genres outside of superheroes.
"As I said a while ago, I really want to get back into horror (as well as try some new things)," Sandberg tweeted.
"After six years working on Shazam, I've really had enough of superheroes for now," Sandberg continued.
The Swedish director emphasized that he never regretted his decision to work on Shazam 2. He also admitted that he was proud to have had the opportunity to direct two films from the DC Extended Universe saga.
Sandberg doesn't deny that there was a lot of pressure after working on Shazam! Fury of the Gods. One of the most impactful is the sharp focus on Shazam and discussions about superhero films on the internet.
"One thing I'm working on is staying away from the superhero conversation online," said Sandberg.
"A lot of things stress me out a lot and it would be nice not to think about those things anymore," she continues.
