When Hary Tanoe was furious that his TV business was forced to switch digital broadcasts

MNC Group owner Hary Tanoesoedibjo alias Hary Tanoe was furious with the government's decision to kill analog TV on Wednesday (11/3/2022).

In fact, the founder of the Perindo Party plans to take the matter to law. Although annoyed with the regulation, the owner of RCTI, MNCTV, INews, GTV TV broadcasts, admitted that they were forced to turn off analog TV broadcasts in Jabodetabek on November 3 at 00:00 WIB.

The transfer of analog TV broadcasts to digital is a mandate of Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation Article 78 Number 3 of the Post, Telecommunications and Broadcasting Sector (Postelsiar).

Hary Tanoe admitted that he felt pressured by the government for his company to turn off analog broadcasts and switch to digital broadcasts. He also apologized to all his television viewers because his party had no other choice.

"Sorry to viewers of RCTI, MNCTV, GTV and iNews throughout Jabodetabek, due to a request by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mr. Mahfud MD to turn off analog broadcasts in the Jabodetabek area," wrote Hary Tanoe, quoted from his official verified Instagram account, Sunday (6 /11/2022).

"So we are very forced to follow the request, even though we still do not understand the legal basis used," he said again.

The reason for Hary Tanoe's protest
Hary Tanoe reasoned that many viewers in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) areas are now no longer able to access television channels due to the policy.

"MNC Group realizes that this act of turning off broadcasts with analog systems is very detrimental to the people of Jabodetabek," said Hary Tanoe.

According to him, there are still many people who do not have a set top box (STB) device, especially for the middle to lower economic class.

"It is estimated that 60 percent of the people in Jabodetabek can no longer enjoy analog television broadcasts, unless they buy a new set top box or replace digital television or subscribe to satellite dishes," he said again.
