HOLIDAY NEWS – Opera, a web browser, is now powered by AI that can receive commands from its users using natural language. Users can group, pin, bookmark and close tabs with these 'natural language' commands.

Opera says users can activate commands on the Aria bar within Opera by pressing Ctrl + / or Cmd + / — and typing a request such as “Group all video tabs” or “Mark all open tabs.”

Opera claims that this browser processes all these commands on the user side (client side). This means that no data is sent out of the user's device to understand the intent of the command.

Through natural language, users can also provide commands related to specific sites or categories. For example, users can write “Close my YouTube tabs” or “Group all my shopping tabs.”

Some users like to explore more deeply on topics of interest, usually opening multiple tabs to get as detailed information as possible.

This condition causes users to open new tabs which may have different types of information on one in-depth topic. Through AI in Opera, users can group tabs according to their type. This feature can of course only group, but cannot help users reduce tabs that are not needed.

How to group tabs by right-clicking on an open tab. Overall, Opera's new features are not yet fully accessible to wider users.

Last year, Opera released Opera One with a new tab group concept called Tab Islands. This concept groups multiple tabs automatically based on overall context.

Typically, browsers rely on AI assistants to launch chatbots to summarize websites and allow users to ask questions. However, with today's new tab control feature, Opera is using AI to simplify browser use.
