- The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) admits that it continues to eradicate online gambling by blocking content on digital platforms and websites.

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said, as of May 21 2024, his party had taken action against almost two million online gambling content since he was inaugurated on July 17 2023.

“The government is committed to eradicating online gambling from its source. "Kominfo took down 1,904,246 content from 17 July 2023 to 21 May 2024," said Budi Arie, quoted from the Kominfo press release, Thursday (23/5/2024).

From April 19 2024 to May 21 2024, coinciding with the Online Gambling Eradication Meeting, the Ministry of Communication and Information has taken action against 290,850 slot gambling content spread across various digital platforms.

"Approximately one month since the last online gambling meeting, Kominfo has almost taken down 290,850 pieces of content related to online gambling. "Almost 300,000, so a day there can be close to 10,000 online gambling content," he added.

He revealed that action against online gambling content on digital platforms was carried out based on keywords. Apart from that, Kominfo also collaborates with digital platforms such as Google and Meta, Facebook's parent company.

According to him, Google was detected as having 20,241 keywords related to online gambling. Meanwhile, the Meta platform has 2,637 keywords.
Budi Arie emphasized that Kominfo is ready to issue another warning if digital platforms such as TikTok, Google and Meta still accommodate online gambling content.

"Previously, we had given all the warnings to TikTok, Google, Meta, everyone," he said.

Budi Arie also admitted that there are tens of thousands of online gambling content on the sites of educational institutions and government institutions. In detail, educational sites have 14,823 online gambling content, while government sites have 17,001 content.

Apart from handling online gambling content, the Minister of Communication and Information stated that 5,364 bank accounts had been blocked and had been submitted to the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
"A total of 555 e-wallets affiliated with online gambling have also submitted accounts to Bank Indonesia for account blocking," he added.

Budi Arie further explained that the eradication of online gambling was carried out comprehensively according to the direction of President Joko Widodo alias Jokowi.

"The benchmark is at PPATK, if transactions are still high then gambling in society still exists," he said. Therefore, the Government immediately formed a task force to be able to deal with online gambling systematically. In particular, Minister Budi Arie reiterated the task of the Ministry of Communication and Information to handle it from the upstream side, by eradicating online gambling content.

"We continue to hunt so that we can complete the eradication of online gambling at the upstream level. "Yes, all kinds of things, passwords, keywords, this is sophisticated because what we are facing are contemporary ghosts," he explained.
